Logic

Ethan, this morning, not 2 minutes after waking up...

"Aren't you going to take a shower this morning, mom? cause you have pokeys on your legs."

kids these days and their darn observations...why can't I have hairy legs in peace??!

Adventures with Ethan

Yesterday I was asking Ethan what he wanted to do on the one week off that I have between quarters at school...

Me: Ethan what should we do when Mom's done with school for a week?

Ethan: Ummmmm. Go on an adventure!

Me: Ok, what kind of adventure??

Ethan, after thinking for a second: A BEAR hunt!!

Me: A bear hunt??!?? (What the??)

Ethan: No! A deer hunt!

Me: Welllll....what are we going to do with the deer when we find it??

Ethan: EAT it!! (duh mom)

Me: But I don't know how to cook a deer.

Ethan: Dat's ok, first you talk to the giant and see if you can borrow his pan so the deer will fit into it. (obviously).

Me: How about we go to a big zoo up in Seattle and maybe an aquarium too?

Ethan: Ok! That sounds fun!!

Thank goodness. Now I don't have to hunt down a giant and borrow any of his kitchen gear.

Math lessons from Ethan

Driving home from school today...

Ethan: Mama, 4 + 4 is 8

Me: Very good, Ethan! Now, what's 3 + 5?

He thinks about it for a second...

Ethan: Dat doesn't even make ANY sense.

Consider yourself educated

Interview with Ethan

I've been seeing lots of mommybloggers doing this with their 3-5 year olds, and I thought it'd be fun to do with Ethan...I don't think he really thought it was fun. But he got over it. I might do this in 6 months or a year, just to see how his answers change. He'll love that, I'm sure.

Okay, ready for some questions? Here goes.

What is something I always say to you? "I don’t know. What. Umm…can you please choose??"

What makes me happy? "Umm I don’t know…when I wash my hands."

What makes me sad? "Not washing my hands"

How do I make you laugh? "When you be silly"

What do you think I was like as a child? "Ummm I don’t know. You should pick."

How old am I? "mmmm…..six?! Six years old? No? 21?" "26?" "27?" (at this point I think he has decided I've lost my mind)

How tall am I? "1234567689…." (I don't think he understood the quesiton...)

What is my favorite thing to do? "Do homework!" (my favorite? Not so much)

What do I do when you’re not around? "Look for me"

If I become famous, what will it be for? “I don’t know. Can you tell me please?"

What am I really good at? "Ummm…playing hide and seek"

What am I not really good at? "games" (so not true! I rock at games!)

What is my job? "Ummm…at the dentist"

What is my favorite food? "Soup and.... soup" (He is laughing hysterically at this answer. He cracks himself up!)

What makes you proud of me? "Um. I. don’t. know."

What makes me proud of you? "Um. I don’t. know."

What do you and I do together? "Snuggle and be cool and play outside." (That RIGHT we 'be cool')

How are we the same? "Mmmm because we have the same face and eyeballs." (too true)

How are you and I different? "Because we don’t have the same body" (also true...this kid's good)

How do you know that I love you? "Mmmm….when you hug me"

What is one thing you wish you could change about me? "Be the same tall as you." (huh?)

What do you wish you could go and do with me? "Be calm and be nice."

Early Mother's Day

On Tuesday, I got a mother's day card from Ethan. Which was suprising, I had no idea he had any clue about the postal system! Actually, last weekend my dad took him to pick out his first bike, and apparently they made a stop to pick a singing card for me. The card itself? Really anoying. But the gesture was so cute. And Ethan kept a complete secret! Today was a different story.

I had to head to campus to turn in my photography assignment, so Ethan stayed with my cousin, Heidi and my Aunt Sandra. But as soon as I got home Ethan brought me a frame that he painted for me that says "I Mom." He painted it green (his favorite color) and pink. There was also a card that he made with a photo of him in it.

Mother's day is so fun now that Ethan knows what it's about. He really gets into making special projects for people- he has such a sweet spirit and loves to make people happy. That warms my heart more than anything.

A Full Weekend of Nothing

Have you ever had a weekend that felt like you didn't accomplish ANYTHING? Until you think back over that time and realize, "Hey I got a lot done...it just didn't feel like it." Well that was this last weekend for me.

I really didn't feel productive at all...but
  • I colored my hair (getting rid of 2 inch roots! Finally!)
  • did oodles of laundry,
  • got some studying in,
  • reorganized the kitchen drawers,
  • played Yatzee with Ethan,
  • took Ethan to my parents house so he could go with Popop to get his first bike
  • caught up on shows that I force my parents DVR to record
  • did yoga
  • read the Flat Belly Diet book (which my aunt, cousin and I are embarking on starting this week)
  • Planned my cousin's bridal shower and bachelorette par-tay
  • and nursed Ethan's foot after he stepped on a tiny shard of glass

So that's quite a bit of stuff...and now it's Monday and I just don't really know what to do with my time! That never happens.
